Getting Here

What does ZTL mean?

ZTL stands for “Zona a Traffico Limitato,” or Limited Traffic Zone. The entire historic center of Florence is designated as a ZTL, meaning access, circulation, and parking within this area are regulated by specific rules. The zone is monitored by telematic gates equipped with Telepass technology that automatically records the license plates of all vehicles entering. Only authorized vehicles are allowed to drive in this area, and special permits are required for entry.

How does the ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone) work?

To access the ZTL, our staff will register your vehicle upon your arrival at Garage Pitti. The ZTL permit will be valid for the entire duration of your stay, but only while your vehicle remains parked in the garage. Once you exit the garage, the ZTL permit will no longer be valid, so you must comply with traffic restrictions when driving outside of the garage.

What are the times for the ZTL?
  • Monday to Friday: 7:30 AM to 8:00 PM
  • Saturday: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM

From the first Thursday in April to the first Sunday in October, the Summer Night ZTL is also in effect. During this period, the rules apply to all sectors (A, B, O, F, and G) on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights:

  • Thursday to Friday: 11:00 PM to 3:00 AM
  • Friday to Saturday: 11:00 PM to 3:00 AM
  • Saturday to Sunday: 11:00 PM to 3:00 AM

Additionally, certain gates are reserved exclusively for public transport and emergency services and are prohibited for all other vehicles 24 hours a day.

If the ZTL light is red when I arrive at the garage, can I still take that road?

Yes, you are allowed to enter the ZTL zone even if the light is red. You can reach Garage Pitti within a 3-hour window. Once you arrive, we’ll take care of registering your vehicle’s information and license plate, ensuring you receive the necessary authorization. This complimentary service is designed to enhance your convenience during your parking experience with us!

Exiting

What should I do if I receive a fine for accessing the ZTL while entering the garage?

It can happen, but don’t worry—we’re here to help! Our staff automatically handles all the paperwork associated with your license plate. If you do receive a fine, please contact us immediately so we can assist you in resolving the issue.

Do not pay the fine before our communication and verification. Instead, send us the complete fine notice (including the notification envelope) in PDF format to [email protected] within 3 days of receipt. We’ll take it from there!

Can I receive a ZTL fine when leaving the garage?

Yes, it is possible to receive a ZTL fine when leaving the garage. Garage Pitti only handles the registration of vehicles upon entry. Once you exit, you are responsible for navigating the streets of Florence to reach your desired destination. We recommend using a navigation app and selecting the “avoid tolls” option to reroute your journey along roads that do not lead into ZTL areas and help you avoid potential fines.
